Yesterday was my birthday.
When I blew out the candles I made a wish for both of us…
That you would try something new like kayaking or roasted bone marrow with garlic on crusty French bread. (Call me – I’ll do both with you!)
That we would make small goals so that we can have a little successes each week and then dream and plan for something big with next year in mind also.
That we wouldn’t wait to forgive or make things right with that person but do it today and not be self-righteous or so nervous about everything.
That we would laugh at how funny and ridiculous we are and still know how capable and badass we are when we’re not too busy taking ourselves so seriously.
That we would stop lying even little white lies and just be honest with ourselves and with others.
That we would listen better without getting defensive.
That we wouldn’t be afraid to share strong opinions. It’s ok if someone gets offended. Go ahead and share with a spirit of love. We all need to grow in our ability to listen better without getting defensive too.
That we would give ourselves as much grace and room to grow as we give others – and that we would give grace to others, because God gave us grace first.
That we wouldn’t wait until January 1st to start over – every morning God’s mercies are new – our life can start over any day too.
Birthdays are our own personal New Years’ Day. I may not get another 365 days let alone 3, so I will live each day with hope and with intention and I wish pray the same for you.
“Teach me to number my days that I might gain a heart of wisdom.” – that’s an awesome verse because it reminds me that God is ready to teach and I can be always willing to learn – I pray we both are.
