Scratching Out the Days

Thoughts · 2 minute read

If you’re like me then you’re going to be scratching over the “0” with a “1” on your checks and records for the next few weeks. It’s going to take a couple of weeks to get that muscle memory retrained for 2021. Setting up any habit takes time and repetition.

We have to do a little more than scratch out the old thing…we gotta think and plan ahead for the new. Today is a good day to consider what your routines look like and to take inventory of where your habits of 2020 got you and to be intentional about what you want to be able to say about 2021. Because in 52 weeks we’ll be back here scratching out that “1” or just changing it into a “2” with a curve and a line.

He didn’t have checks to write, but Moses understood this. He asked God to, “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Where does true change begin? Opening your heart to let God do the work in you. Ask God to do that right now. Decide today to make your time in God’s word a priority, not just something you make room for when you scratch out an old habit.

Decide today to make your time in God’s word a priority, not just something you make room for when you scratch out an old habit.

Understand what it means to be attentive to each day and 52 weeks from today you’ll have developed spiritual muscle memory and wisdom too.

🙂 Jennifer

p.s. Psalm 90 is an amazing chapter to read at the beginning of the year – actually, it would be a great chapter to read at the beginning of every week!
