What’s Holding You Back?

Blog· Thoughts · 3 minute read

What if this was going to be your year? You set big goals, prayed big prayers, and decided, This is it. I’m going to dive into God’s Word and stay consistent this time.

But here you are, just a few weeks into the new year, feeling overwhelmed and already behind. You’re not reading your Bible like you’d planned. The excitement has faded, and life is as messy and busy as ever. Sound familiar?

Let me stop you right here. You don’t have to stay stuck.

And guess what?

God isn’t measuring you by your performance. He’s inviting you to let go of the worry and pray. Real prayer—crying out to Him, laying down your burdens, and trusting the One who is more than able. That’s the heart of what we see in the book of Joshua, and I’m so excited to share this with you.

God’s Story, Not Ours

When we open the Bible, we tend to start with questions like, What does this mean for me? How does this apply to my life? But here’s the truth: The Bible isn’t primarily about us—it’s about God. Joshua teaches us who God is, what He’s done, and how He moves in and through His people.

And when we focus on Him, something amazing happens. We stop spinning our wheels and start walking in faith.

Five Truths About God in Joshua

Here are five truths to anchor your heart, even on the days when you feel like you’re falling short:

  1. God is Faithful: He kept His promises to Israel, and He’ll keep His promises to you.
  2. God is Sovereign: He’s in control—even when life feels chaotic.
  3. God is Holy: Joshua shows us the seriousness of sin, but also the beauty of His grace.
  4. God is Gracious: Rahab’s story reminds us that no one is beyond redemption.
  5. God Fights for You: Just as He fought for Israel, He fights for you.

These aren’t just truths for Joshua’s time—they’re for your time, too.

What About the Hard Parts?

Let’s get real: some passages in Joshua are tough. Wars, judgment, and destruction can leave you with more questions than answers. But instead of turning away, lean in. Start with this foundational truth: God is good. Every challenging story in Joshua ultimately points to His holiness, justice, and grace.

You don’t have to have all the answers. Just trust Him. He’s big enough to handle your questions and your doubts.

An Invitation to Refresh Your Soul

To the weary woman reading this: take a deep breath. It’s not about doing it perfectly—it’s about showing up. God is ready to meet you where you are, whether you’ve been faithfully reading His Word or struggling to even open your Bible.

This week’s message, Joshua: Dwelling Well, pt 2, is full of practical tools to help you approach Scripture with fresh eyes and a renewed heart. If all you have time for is this blog, let it encourage you.

But if you can, grab a cup of coffee, set aside the distractions, and listen to the full message.

Pray. Trust.

Let the walls of worry tumble down like Jericho. And remember—you’re not in this alone. God fights for you, and I’m praying for you too.

Let’s dwell richly in God’s Word together.
